The Sun's Cycle
The Sun's is the most popular cycle of which most people are aware for when it returns to its position in the birth map every year, it marks yet another birthday. A birthday is a time which should bring with it a generally favourable frame of mind - although this is not always the case - but these will be good times to consider the results and rewards of the past year and make plans for new ventures and fresh starts. Figuratively speaking, this is an individual's 'New Year'.

The Moon's Cycle
The Moon - This is the fastest moving planet (the Sun and Moon, for ease of reference, are classed as 'planets' in astrology). It can take just 28 days before it begins on yet another journey around the zodiac and the fact that the Moon is associated with emotional reactions explains why people can experience so many changes in mood during the month, especially those with Cancer (the sign ruled by the Moon) strong in their chart.
The  New Moon  and Astrology
Each New Moon marks a good time to start new projects whether long or short-term. Matters relating to the domestic situation may need attention.

The Full Moon and Astrology
The Full Moon sometimes marks a time when family life can be tense and relatives argumentative. Shopping trips for household items may either be unsuccessful or turn out to be more costly than expected. Emotional outbursts may temporarily interrupt the normal smooth running of family affairs.

Mercury's Cycle and Astrology
Mercury, the mischievous son of Jupiter, was, according to mythology, the 'Messenger of the Gods'. Continuing in that vein, this planet in astrology rules over communication in all forms: writing, talking, telephone, radio, television, magazines and newspapers and short-distance travelling. Mercury is the indicator of the 'mind', influencing mental interests and ability. Travelling swiftly around the Sun, this planet completes its orbit approximately every 88 days.

Venus Cycle and Astrology
Never very far away from the Sun, at the most 48 degrees - Venus takes about 224 days to complete a full circle of the zodiac. This is the planet of love, beauty, co-operation and harmony, although the strength of these qualities obviously depends on the extent to which they are 'activated' by the other planets n a chart. Once every 224 days (or thereabouts) when Venus returns to its natal position will be a time when  relations with others are good. Perhaps there will be a new romance or just plain appreciation of a current relationship and the joys which love and harmony bring.

Mars Cycle and Astrology
Mars is the warrior planet which rules over such things as action, initiative, quarrels and physical drive. It takes around two and a half years to compete its cycle of the zodiac (quite a short time when compared to the outer planets which can take from twelve to over two hundred years to travel full circle).

As it meets its natal position once every thirty months or so, it stimulates Martian qualities such as enterprise and initiative, sometimes marking a time for acting afresh. Quite often such beginnings are connected to the career such as job change or promotion.

Jupiter Cycle and Astrology
It takes twelve years for Jupiter to circle the zodiac and return to its natal position in a birth chart. People therefore experience their Jupiter Returns at the ages of 12, 24, 36, 48 and so on. Jupiter is linked with Zeus, the king of the ancient Greek gods. The largest planet that rules over the sign Sagittarius, it is associated with luck, good fortune, travel and philosophy. Jupiter's day is Thursday and physically, it governs over the liver and the healing abilities of the body. Positive aspects of Jupiter include optimism, joy, generosity and expansion. As with all the planets, Jupiter also has its negative side and can be linked with over-confidence, impetuousness, carelessness and extravagance.

Saturn Cycle and Astrology
Saturn takes almost thirty years to complete its journey around the zodiac. Because, at one time, Saturn was seen as the most distant of planets, this made the planet seem cold and slow-moving. Saturn was linked with the ancient Greek God Kronus who was also known as Old Father Time. Saturn rules over old-age; it is the planet of caution and limitation. Saturn types are sometimes dark and dour in appearance: they are disciplined and mature with great self-control and determination. People in whose charts this planet is strong are hard-working and wise. Other positive qualities associated with Saturn are patience, cautiousness, thoughtfulness and perseverance. However negative links with this planet include loneliness, depression, sorrow, suffering and hardship. Saturn's signs are Capricorn and Aquarius; its day is Saturday.

Uranus Cycle and Astrology
The symbol for the sign Uranus looks like a television aerial which is appropriate as this planet is linked with invention and technology. Because it takes about 84 years to complete a circle of the zodiac, it has influence over generations rather than individuals. Uranus is the planet of change, rebellion and freedom and it rules over the sign Aquarius.

Neptune Cycle and Astrology
Orbits 165 years.  Neptune, the ruler of Pisces is the planet of mysticism and medium ship. It is associated with psychics, magicians, mystics, artists, musicians and writers.

Pluto Cycle and Astrology
Pluto was not discovered until 1930 and it takes 248 years to travel around the zodiac. Pluto has been called the phoenix planet as it is linked with transformation. It is also associated with the deep levels of the subconscious, sleep and parapsychology. It rules over the sign Scorpio.
